Shanita and Aaron got engaged after a helicopter ride around the mountains of the South Island, so it was only fitting they had their engagement photos showcase that dreamy mountain landscape. They chose Mt Ruapehu in the North Island and photographer Hannah McMaster was there to capture the incredible sunset with them. Follow us as we go on a wild adventure with these lovers. And you can meet Hannah McMaster in person this month at Wild Hearts Auckland.
Tell us a little bit about yourselves, and how long have you been together? My name is Shanita, I am born and bred from Hawkes Bay. Aaron is originally from Florida in America. He has been in New Zealand for 18 years. We have been together for 6 years this November. (On our wedding day)
The Love Story: How did you meet? Aaron’s dad interviewed me for a new job in Hawkes Bay. Thankfully he gave me the opportunity. I flew up to Auckland for training where I first meet Aaron. One day after training he insisted on driving me back to my motel, and weirdly, Aaron wanted to check out my motel room and shower … (I think he was awkwardly trying to make conversation). We actually didn’t communicate a lot until we started working closer together 6 months later. After a few trips of Aaron coming down to the Bay for work, we became quite good friends. Aaron took me for a cheeky “work” dinner … which he planned very well and the sparks started. After a few dates, we started dating doing long distance for a year, then he finally made the decision to move down to Hawkes Bay by me and Emma (my daughter).
How did you choose your shoot location? Hannah (Photographer) recommended the location – which I absolutely loved. After the shoot my family told me that Mt Ruapehu is our maunga (mountain). It was meant to be, especially with the blessing of Abishek a young adventurer who we crossed paths with while rolling down the mountain.
Style and vibe of the shoot? Romantic, rustic, natural, scenic (nature at its best). It was an experience of a life time, fun and magical.
What does love mean to you? Love is being able to share your life with your sole mate. Experience ups and downs together and being able to still laugh and communicate. Caring for someone more than yourself. sharing life experiences with them & growing old together.
