In a collision of old-world romance and modern minimalism, its hard to go past La Lumiere’s iconic aesthetic that is characterised by luxurious drapery and extravagant lighting. Carefully curated fabric and lighting installations are at the core of what they do, producing some of the countries. most stunning and timeless weddings.
We speak to founder Kristina Ercolano about how this beautiful business came to be…
Tell us a bit about La Lumiere and how the brand came to be.
La Lumiere was born around 18 years ago. I left a career as an Art Director in film to have my first child and was looking for something more family friendly and creative. I have always been a big fan of lighting and the idea of offering fairy lights for hire with an installation service came to me. Over time our range of lighting has grown into what it is today with high quality pendants, chandeliers and draping all professionally installed by our creative team.
How would you describe your aesthetic?
A friend once said our look is “just so” and I think this sums up our aesthetic in all areas of what we do. We like to offer classic styles that last the distance as well as some trending styles, all installed “just so”
Favourite wedding you have ever styled?
Ooo so hard to pick a favourite but a few years back we styled the draping for a luxe wedding. It was a collaborative effort and it came together beautifully. We get the most requests for this look.

How early do couples have to book in advance?
Ideally around a year for weddings outside of Auckland and 6 months for anything more local. We do get booked up quickly over popular dates in summer.

Guide us through the initial process couples can expect when working with La Lumiere?
After the initial contact and once we have all the information we will arrange a design to suit along with pricing and photo reference. We also have some packages available for venues we work at often that couples can simply choose from.
What trends are you noticing?
Lots and lots of lush draping and chandeliers.

Whats next for La Lumiere in 2024?
We are currently working on being more available in Queenstown with a smaller range of lights available down there – it’s a bit of a logistical challenge… but who doesn’t love a challenge.
