Ten years after first setting eyes on each other (and one amazing beach-side drone proposal!) Brooke and Logan married; their wedding a beautifully relaxed yet perfectly styled occasion at a stunning Tauranga homestead. Nestled amongst lush native bush, Mayward Homestead provided the most beautiful grounds for this organic-inspired wedding, with a clear marquee by local hire company Twelve Tables providing cover while allowing the surrounding nature (and stars!) to blend through. Photographer Jackson Bright captured the day perfectly, really getting the essence of this amazing wedding and the landscape in a beautiful album the couple will treasure forever. We caught up with Brooke and Logan to chat more about their love story below….
How did you meet and how long have you been together?
We could tell you it was really romantic. However, it was at a mutual friend’s party. We bumped into each other and that is when Logan told me he had lost his phone, he asked me if I could message his mate for him to help him find it. Little did I know it was his number that I just texted. I actually lost my phone that night so I had to get a new one and when I turned it on a week later his number was the first one I text by chance. The rest is what we call an adventure. We just celebrated our 10 years!
How would you describe each other?
Logan: Brooke is a hard-working goal smasher, always motivating me to do my best. Despite her love for fries she is very beautiful and has the biggest heart to go with it.
Brooke: Logan is such a generous man, he always gives. He always lives life like a big adventure and has such a positive outlook on life. With anything he does, he always puts so much passion into it. He brings people up, which is my favourite thing about him.
Tell us a little bit about the proposal and your engagement?
I (Brooke) was flying out to China that day for a work trip. I can remember it so clearly. It was a beautiful winter July day. Logan asked if I wanted to go for walk at Waihi beach before leaving (I love the beach). So, we are walking down the beach and ahead of us, we could see a drone flying around (it didn’t worry us because Logan flies drones) But the further down the beach we walked, the drone came closer and lower to us. It wasn’t until it was flying right above us I could see something hanging from the Drone. Logan asked me if I had anything clue what was going on, I had no idea. It was then that Logan went up to the Drone and cut the box hanging, then got down on one knee and proposed.
The whole thing had been caught on the drone camera and our good friends and family were involved with the whole thing!
We enjoyed our time being engaged, we didn’t want to rush getting married as we think being engaged is a really special time to enjoy. We were engaged for just under two years.
Tell us about your wedding style. What influenced your planning for the day?
We didn’t really have a wedding style. Logan is a beekeeper so we knew we wanted it to be outdoors and really organic.
Why did you choose your destination?
One of our good friend’s brother had been married there about a year earlier. When we saw their wedding photos we fell in love with the location. It had only had a hand full of weddings so was really untouched. That meant we could go in with our big ideas and make it ours. Brooke really wanted to make this wedding different and this location ticked all the boxes being 20 acres of garden and bush.
What was your favourite detail from the day?
Our beautiful clear marquee from Twelve Tables. It really helped us bring the outdoors in and it really brought our organic scheme together as it felt like you were sitting under the stars.
What was your favourite moment from the day?
Logan: Walking back down the aisle as husband and wife holding hands. It’s a feeling that I can’t even describe. Best moment of my life so far.
Brooke: How do you even pick! Walking down the aisle with my Dad and him giving me away was truly special to me.
What does marriage mean to you?
Marriage is being equal in every aspect of this adventure. It’s being each other’s biggest cheerleader, motivator, and supporter. Knowing you won’t always have good days but it’s about working through the troubles together, taking the good with the bad. And having fun, always take the time to have a laugh with each other.
Who were your stand out vendors?
Sara and Jean from Twelve Tables. They are friends of ours but they truly went above and beyond for us on the day. From setting our tables and helping the boys set up before everyone arrived, they made the whole process incredibly easy and stress-free. Their business really reflects on the kind of the people they are.
Our photographer, Jackson Bright. He came in with 110%. He never stopped all day and made us feel very comfortable being in front of the camera, while always trying to get the photo that no one has got before. His photo’s really reflect his talent.
Any advice for other couples planning a wedding?
A good checklist! You can’t miss anything if you have it down in front of you.
Don’t let anyone tell you your idea is too big. So many times we were told it couldn’t be done but it only pushed us harder to make it happen.
Have a really good support team, one that will be there for you through all the highs and lows of the planning process.
Lastly, don’t be afraid to delegate. You can’t do everything so this is when your support team comes in handy!
Do you have a favourite quote or piece of your vows you would like to share?
“Even when I’m gone, I will still love you.” – It was what we both signed off our vows with.
