A Romantic clifftop wedding at Parihoa Farm

Set on the grounds of the idyllic Parihoa Farm, Alex and Jack’s romantic wedding was a celebration that blended romance with modern touches. Bright and bold floral installations framed their cliffside ceremony, finished with wooden bench seating – a scene that offered the perfect compliment to the picturesque surrounds. At dusk, the reception where wooden tables contrasted with modern ghost chair seating, scattered with blooms in an array of pink and white hues.

This coastal cliffside wedding was beautifully captured by Zara Staples.

How did you meet and how long have you been together?

We matched on the dating app Bumble and have been together for almost 4 years. (AC + JC)

Tell us a little bit about the proposal and your engagement?

We selected the ring together but the pickup date of the ring and proposal were kept a secret from Alex. I waited for a rare sunny evening as it was Winter, before telling Alex we were going to take sunset photos at Bethells Beach. After setting up the tripod and getting a few good snaps, I got down on one knee and popped the question. We celebrated the next evening with close family and bubbles. (JC)

Tell us about your wedding style. What influenced your planning for the day?

We were keen to find a “blank canvas” venue with a modern, minimal vibe. Luckily, after watching The Great Kiwi Bake-off, we discovered Parihoa Farm and it ticked all the boxes. We were able to plan and design our ideal event based on styles and vendors that represented us, for example, food trucks and a live band to name a few. (JC)

Why did you choose your destination?

After viewing the venue we were mesmerized by the setting. The scenery was stunning, and was just far enough away to feel like a “destination wedding” without needing to travel out of town. (JC)

What was your favourite detail from the day?

The ceremony was so beautiful, and the whole thing absolutely warmed my heart. It was an intimate ceremony made special by having our nearest and dearest so close. Not to mention being walked down the aisle by my dad, Frank. That will be something I remember forever. (AC)

Did you have a stand out vendor from your Wedding?

Our standout vendor was Kim Eder and her team known as “The Crew”, who were responsible for all things hospitality on the day. Being an unstaffed venue we needed to provide a service to ensure that we and all of the guests were well looked after. Kim ran the entire show and got outstanding feedback from everyone. Stacey and Debbie from Wild Blooms also did an absolutely incredible job!! The flowers were so stunning, and they went the extra mile to ensure the flowers didn’t blow away! (AC)

What was your favourite moment from the day?

The first look was the moment that has stuck with me the most. It was a very “real” moment that brought a whole heap of different emotions and slowed the day down for me. It’s definitely something I’ll look back on for the rest of my life. I would recommend any couple including this on their wedding day. (JC)

What does marriage mean to you?

Marriage represents everything your relationship has been leading up to the day you say your vows. It is the ultimate commitment to the person that makes you feel whole, safe, and grounded. (JC)

Advice for other couples planning a wedding?

Make sure that you choose a venue that is going to support you through the whole process. Theresa at Parihoa was incredible and kept us so well-informed and up to date with things such as deadlines, requirements, and general advice. We’re grateful to have had professional support in planning what is the biggest event you’ll ever organize. There is so much to stay on top of and having someone on the same page all the way through was so helpful. (JC)
