Often overlooked as a travel destination the South Island’s West Coast truly has so much to offer and some of the most spectacular scenery. Today we get lost in this wild dreamscape destination with Stylist and Wild Hearts Brand Manager Lisa Macale as she shares a little of her trip to New Zealand’s West Coast.
The rugged coast lines, wild oceans and sense of complete isolation will leave you with a feeling of complete bliss.
We stayed in the beautiful eco-friendly Woodpecker Hut (a short drive from the famous pancake rocks at Punakaiki). Upon arriving we were blown away by the views, the images could never do this place justice. With not a single other person in site and secluded beaches down below all you can hear is the ocean waves crashing upon the cliffs. The huts are so well equipped and offer a luxurious accommodation option to the West Coast. There is even a wood fire spa bath overlooking the ocean.
What is truly magical about being here is the feeling of complete isolation. It is rare to come across another person walking along the beach. There are also literally hundreds of places to stop on the drive down for amazing photos!
The Punakaiki’s pancake rocks offer a chance to explore the limestone landscape of unique shaped rock formations with blowholes and surge pools along the short 20-minute loop walk.
