Story telling through Candid Moments with Rose & Co Creative

Wedding Photographer Rose & Co Creative captures memories that deeply imprint – communicating the story of many treasured moments. Whether that’s observing beloved friends and family, finding the perfect light in the most intimate of moments or simply capturing the day’s details, it’s these sweet instances that Hannah weaves into her images.

We speak to Hannah about how her images not only capture a feeling, but elicit them too…

Firstly, give us an introduction.. A little bit about you and how Rose & Co came to be…

Rose & Co Creative first came about in 2021 as I wanted to pursue my passion of photography and capturing moments in time that can be cherished for a lifetime. After 3 years of Studying a graphic design degree at Waikato University I made the decision that I was ready to take a leap into starting my own business.

During my time as a photographer I have captured so many incredible couples and shared so many amazing memories. I am totally biased but I think I might just have the best job in the world.

Why photography? What is it about the art form that drives you, inspires you?

Photography was my calling in life, I have never experienced something that brings me so much joy. The most amazing thing that draws me to keep creating is how you can tell a story through your photographs. When I am photographing a wedding day I am looking at it through the eyes of a storyteller. I don’t want to capture forced moments, instead I like to capture the day completely as it unfolds so that it can be remembered for the way that it felt on the day.

What can couples expect when working with you on their wedding day?

Couples can expect a relaxed experience with me. I will guide and offer ideas but I will never force you into doing anything you don’t want to do. I want to tell your story in a way that is unique to you. I focus on the candid moments and the interactions between your family and friends as well as the deep love and connection that the couple shares.

Is there any advice you can give to couples that are nervous to get in front of the lens?

I always say, try not to think of it as a camera in front of your face but instead something that comes along with us as we all hang out together. I want my couples to feel comfortable with me and feel as though they have been hanging out with a friend rather than a photographer.

What’s your favourite moment during a wedding day?

My favourite moment during a wedding day would have to be when one partner is walking down the aisle with someone who is so incredibly special to them and then glancing back at the other partner who is waiting patiently, bursting with emotion and sometimes a tear as they watch the love of their life coming towards them.

I always shed a tear during these moments.

Elopements or Weddings which are your favourites?

Ooooh I love them both! I love elopements for the intimacy and the ability to spend more time together for photos and weddings for the amazing people and interactions that occur.

Who are the artists, photographers, creatives that inspire you?

Henry Tuei for Henry’s diary is definitely a huge inspiration of mine. Some other creatives that really inspire me are Kate Roberge, George & Jane, Ana Galloway and many more.

If you aren’t shooting a wedding, where would we find you on a Saturday morning?

If I’m not shooting a wedding on a Saturday morning you will find me having a slow start to the day with coffee in bed and some indie music playing in the background. Then heading out to enjoy a hike or something adventurous in the afternoon.

We know you love to travel, where are your favourite destinations to visit?

I have only ever been to New Zealand and Australia but we have a trip booked to Europe next year to visit Iceland, Paris, Italy, Greece, Croatia, Spain and many more places in Europe. I have always loved Canada too.

Anything exciting coming up for 2023?

I have a trip to Fiji planned which is exciting and also so many incredible weddings that I am looking forward to capturing!

How can couples book in with you?

Couples can book with me via email, Instagram or Facebook. I love to try and meet with you in person if it is possible otherwise meet via zoom or facetime before you book with me.
