Dive into Serenity with SABEN’s Spring/Summer 2024 Collection
A tribute to the serene beauty and healing power of the ocean.
This season, SABEN’s collection introduces new silhouettes and innovative features, creating looks that are both contemporary and timeless. Each piece showcases a thoughtful balance of colour, texture, and form, along with some surprises and twists on classics that fans have come to expect from Creative Director, Roanne Jacobson’s signature design aesthetic.
Aqua Aura dives deep into the calming influence of the blue colour palette, revered for its ability to foster relaxation and introspection. From serene skies above to the depths of the ocean, blue has long been cherished in colour therapy for its tranquil qualities. In today’s uncertain world, finding moments of peace, particularly through nature, feels more important than ever.
Through the rhythmic motion of waves and the organic beauty of coastal and underwater landscapes, the designs showcase a thoughtful blend of artistic vision and craftmanship. The wide weaving patterns in the collection mirror the ocean’s surface, while tight weaving techniques symbolise the interconnectedness of marine life. The weaving process itself is a meditative one, each bag taking up to 12 hours for the makers to handcraft. Design inspiration can be felt in the new expression of Tilly’s Big Sis Crossbody in Wave – a gentle, new, aqua blue hue – hand weaved on the front – a symbolic pocket
of calm, wherever you go.
Oceans are for Everyone
The health of the ocean needs to be protected and cherished so that everyone can enjoy its many gifts. As part of SABENS enduring commitment to people and place, 1% of sales from the first two weeks of the Collection Launch will be donated to Sustainable Coastlines, a New Zealand-based charity dedicated to guarding and protecting our moana (ocean) for now and future generations.
This organisation unites communities to combat plastic pollution and other litter, aiming to reduce coastal litter by 60% by 2030 through clean-up events, educational programs, public awareness campaigns, and their Litter Intelligence initiative. Since 2009, Sustainable Coastlines volunteers have removed over 1.8 million litres of litter from Aotearoa’s coastlines, contributing to healthier ecosystems and fostering enduring positive change.
Campaign photographed by Guy Coombes captured the essence of this collection, styled by Courtney Joe, and modelled by Ruby Honore.
