PUNTERS PUNCH FROM O.G.B
Tom from O.G.B was our go to guy for our most recent super summery cocktail feature. His chill personality and eye for detail made for an epic Thursday morning drinking cocktails in the sunshine. We asked him to whip us up a couple of O.G.B’s classics and our first one was this delicious number, Punters Punch.
The former Government Building is a heritage building in Christchurch that was designed by Joseph Clarkson Maddison in 1909. O.G.B has become one of Christchurch’s hot spots with great food and epic live music.
In the tall Cocktail glass is a classic twist on big Caribbean tiki Cocktails of the 70s – 80s.The recipe is my own reworking of two classic cocktails, the Barbadoes Swizzle and the Original Punters Punch, both cocktails containing elements that I used to inspire O.G.B’s version.
| PUNTERS PUNCH |
To make The Punters Punch you’ll need:
A Boston Shaker
Crushed Ice
Cubed Ice (to shake)
Lime Juice
Sugar Syrup
Rye Whiskey
Black Rum
Falernum Syrup (Ginger/Clove Tiki mix)
Fresh Pineapple Juice
Peyscheuds Bitter (Aromatic Bitters)
Method:
Add into the Boston
30ml Lime Juice
30ml Black Rum (We use Gosling Black)
30ml Rye Whiskey (We use Jim Beam Prohibition)
40ml Falernum Syrup (We make ours in house)
10ml Simple Syrup (It’s a 50/50 recipe)
40ml Fresh Pineapple Juice
Shake over cubed ice and strain into the tall cocktail glass and top up with Crushed ice to the top
We Garnish our Punters Punch with a couple dashes of Peyscheauds Bitters
Some Dehydrated Pineapple and Lime and a big Mint Garnish, the bigger the garnish the better as far as I’m concerned.
You can either try this cocktail for yourself or head in and let the experts take care of you. OGB is located at 30/28 Cathedral Square, Christchurch Central. Make sure sure to let them know your Wild Hearts gals sent you. xx
