How did you meet and how long have you been together?
We first met 8 years ago in Berlin, when a group of mutual friends living in Europe decided to get together and meet at a Six60 concert for the weekend.
Fast forward 2 years later on a night out, we absolutely hit it off on the dance floor at our local watering hole in Palmerston North. Since that day we have been glued to the hip for just over 5 years.
Tell us a little bit about the proposal and your engagement?
Hamish popped the big question during a hike whilst we were on holiday in Banff, Canada in 2018. It was a 34 degree day and he was adamant he wanted to see this one particular lake, called Grizzly Lake. I wasn’t so keen on the 3 hour round trip and complained the whole time about the heat. He requested I get a photo when we finally got there and when I turned back around the rest was history!
How would you describe each other?
Yin & Yang
Why did you choose your destination?
We currently live in Perth, however we always wanted to get married around our friends and family in New Zealand. We were very fortunate to be able to hold our wedding at my parent’s family farm in Mangaweka. Their property lines the Rangitikei River and has breathtaking views, so it was a bit of a no brainer for us.
Tell us about your wedding style. What influenced your planning for the day?
We are pretty chilled out people, so we opted for a relaxed cocktail style wedding that focused on three main things that we love most in life – great food, great tunes and great booze.
However, the majority of the styling of our wedding came from Alice from Flock Events, she created a beautiful ceremony and reception space for our guests and we still get comments on how beautiful the cocktail areas were. We sent off only a few inspo pics to Alice, of the florals and layout we had in mind and what she created for us was everything we could have hoped for and more.
What was your favourite moment from the day?
When we both locked eyes walking down the aisle, we couldn’t wipe the cheesy grins off our faces.
Another highlight was when Hamish’s whanau did a very moving haka, it was so special to us and had the majority of our guests holding back tears.
Who were your standout vendors?
Literally every single one of them made our day awesome!
From the moment we made an enquiry to the moment I walked down the aisle, they were all so helpful and we couldn’t thank them all enough
Advice for other couples planning a wedding?
We would 100% recommend putting every cent into your photography and videography. The day goes super-fast so it’s awesome to have great pictures to look back on.
