The beautifully rustic Larcomb Vineyard was the perfect setting for Jessica and Ryan’s relaxed garden wedding. The picturesque red buildings against wide blue skies created a gorgeous backdrop for a foliage laden archway where the couple gave their vows. Blending favourite aspects from a range of styles with traditional moments, they worked alongside a talented group of vendors to create an amazing day that truly portrayed the essence of their style, morals and love. Photographer Susannah Blatchford captured their day beautifully, including stunning portraits in a range of local, rural locations.
We caught up with Jessica and Ryan about their planning for the day and what marriage means to them…
How did you meet and how long have you been together?
We met when Ryan moved to Australia, he is really good friends with one of my cousins. It turned out that Ryan needed a place to stay, and our family home happened to be that place. It kind of just all came together from there…. 9 1/2 years later here we are!
How would you describe each other?
We just seem to fit together perfectly, I do need to keep Ryan on his toes though, has a very “relaxed” attitude haha. We both have attributes that really make the relationship work, compromise is key!
Tell us a little bit about the proposal and your engagement?
The proposal was very intimate and surprising. Ryan came home one Friday and really caught me off guard, he walked straight up to me and got down on one knee and asked “Jessica will you marry me?” He was actually very cute and maybe optimistic (haha) as he had organised for all of our friends and family to come and celebrate that night. Our engagement party was very similar, we had a huge party out at his parents place. We had a fantastic night with enough food and drinks to feed an army.
Tell us about your wedding style. What influenced your planning for the day?
We went for a casual kind of style, with many different genres all kind of thrown together for the exact sort of day we both wanted. We did spent plenty of time on the net looking at different weddings and up and coming trends, we extracted
what we liked from many different sources and mixed it al up in to one!
Why did you choose your destination?
The destination ticked all of our boxes, it is a beautiful venue close to so many amazing places for photo opportunities. Also Ryan’s parents live just over the road, so they got ready there and popped over for the wedding. They have lived there for 29 years, so Larcombs was really a no brainer!
What was your favourite detail from the day?
Having both our elderly Nana’s be there to witness us get married had to be pretty up there.
What was your favourite moment from the day?
We both hold the memory of walking up the aisle after the ceremony as our first moment as Mr & Mrs Odering in our favourites.
Who were your stand out vendors?
Susannah Blatchford was AMAZING, she was so easy to work with and her photos caught the day perfectly. We were so lucky to have Tess Senifo from Moffats arrange our flowers for the day, she did such an amazing job it really was incredible. Both Moveable Feasts and Smoking Stu’s BBQs catered our food, we could not recommend them highly enough! Their food was absolutely delicious and very organised, they really were a pleasure to deal with. To be honest everyone who we used was very good and highly recommended!
Advice for other couples planning a wedding?
Don’t sweat the small stuff. You do what you want to do and don’t try and keep up with the Kardashians, the day will be special no matter how much you spend!
What does marriage mean to you?
We are both relatively traditional in our morals, marriage to us means love and support from day one for the rest of our lives. Sounds cheesy but that really is why we got married. The start of our journey together as one.
Do you have a favourite quote or piece of your vows you would like to share?
We actually went with traditional vows, this to us was perfect as both of our parents used the same words. Thats what made it special.
