Serenaded by the sounds of waves rolling against the Kāpiti Coast, Merran and Daniel’s understated affair was the epitome of coastal cool.
Lush greenery in lieu of traditional floral decorated the minimalist space that boasted stylish decor with quirky and iconic touches. The ceremony unfolded beachside where vows were exchanged overlooking the ocean.
Merran and Daniel’s wedding was nothing short of timeless and effortlessly chic. A beachside celebration encompassing a laid-back charm, beautifully captured by Patina Photo.
How did you meet and how long have you been together?
We were each other’s first and only Tinder dates. We got married after 6.5 years together. We are now just past the 8 year mark, and have a wee 10 month old, who was born exactly 9 months after the wedding, so read into that what you will!
Tell us a little bit about the proposal and your engagement?
It was in bed at 4.30am after a full day of partying for Merran’s 30th birthday. We both mutually agreed to get married, instead of either of us “popping the question”. We had a passphrase we had to both say in the morning to ensure it was a legit conversation.
Tell us about your wedding style. What influenced your planning for the day?
Timeless classic meets epic seaside party. We wanted ourselves to look like timeless classic Hollywood, with the venue filled with foliage, vintage velvet furniture and a slight nod to some skulls (til death do we party!), all the while guests were able to chill in the sun, play games and graze on gelato and pizza – no formal dinner here!
Why did you choose your destination?
We are local to Paraparaumu, love the beach and there’s nothing like a Kāpiti island sunset. The Kāpiti Boat Club had a great venue hire price and were very accommodating to us decorating as we pleased.
What was your favourite detail from the day?
We had the best feedback on the baskets in the bathrooms filled with tissues, deodorant, painkillers, face spritz and mints etc. Helped keep our guests feeling and looking good. They went down a treat.
Did you have a stand out vendor from your Wedding?
Power Plant in Paraparaumu supplied all the greenery for the venue. We contacted them on the off chance they had considered leasing plants out from their shop, and they thankfully said yes. They pretty much moved their entire store around the corner into the venue for 48hrs.
What was your favourite moment from the day?
The champagne tower in lieu of a wedding cake, with gold confetti cannons going off as All Night Long by Lionel Ritchie played.
What does marriage mean to you?
Commitment to each other as a dynamic duo of awesomeness, to ride life’s waves, however they may come.
Advice for other couples planning a wedding?
Utilise each other’s strengths and share the jobs. Remember that it is just one day, but it’s the most fun party you’ll ever throw for all your favourite people. Have something planned for the weeks afterwards once everyone goes home. Hire Patina Photography to shoot your wedding.
