A Clifftop wedding in Coastal Wellington by Patina Photo

At a hidden gem, perched on dramatic coastal cliffs with sweeping seaside vistas, Dominique and Joubert were married overlooking views of the Cook Strait. Behind them, a surreal backdrop of rolling countryside, where the couple exchanged vows engulfed by luminous coastlines. Inspired by the dusky hues of an unmatched sunset, and the warm tones of their venue, a romantic palette seeped through every element of their decor.

This remote coastal wedding was captured by Patina Photo.

How did you meet and how long have you been together?

After taking on board mums advice “you need to spend less time working, and more time on tinder” Dom signed up to the dating app Hinge – shortly after, she met Joubert. We knew very early on that this was something special. We have been together for 3 years – 20 months of that we were engaged

Tell us a little bit about the proposal and your engagement?

We have a mutual love of getting out of the city and staying in remote peaceful places. For Dom’s birthday we jumped on a plane to Dunedin and drove out to the  ‘the high country cabin’. Joubert’s proposed the day before Dom’s birthday after he made some pancakes.

Tell us about your wedding style. What influenced your planning for the day?

We wanted a very relaxed energy. Aside from Boomrock being stunning with incredible views, we chose it because it was super cosy and everything was in one place.

What was your favourite detail from the day?

The mulled wine and the wedding cake which feature our fur babies Max & Maggie

Did you have a stand out vendor from your Wedding?

They were all incredible! Kathryn the make up artist is something else, not only is her work amazing, she brings a great energy and vibe which was appreciated as I was getting ready.

What was your favourite moment from the day?

We had 2:

Dom’s mum being our celebrant, it was such a special moment.

Scooting away with our amazing photographers – we opted to do our photos with just the two of us and not our bridal party and this was the best decision.

Advice for other couples planning a wedding?

Don’t waste money on the small things like signs etc – put the money into quality vendors!
