HAUTE WEDDINGS \\ Capturing ephemeral moments of modern romance

Wild romantics at heart Julia and Cameron, with the love of fashion and photography, established HAUTE Weddings — a wedding photography power couple documenting the essence of every wedding they shoot from the dress down to the décor, capturing modern love stories with a vogue editorial feel.

Fashion, art, and travel inspire the high-end quality of HAUTE’s images with raw elements of light, love, aesthetics, and fleeting meaningful moments, laced together into a single snapshot. Julia’s experience in the European fashion industry and Cameron’s mastery of angles and light evoke a seamless fusion, flaunting a timeless elegance in each frame.

From shooting a couple on a classic old boat, on Lake Como, at sunset… to wild oceans and raw mountainscapes steeped in poetic beauty. Chasing love stories around the world, Julia and Cameron split their time between Europe’s history-enriched countries and New Zealand’s natural landscapes building their wedding portfolio together.

We adore Julia and Cameron’s undeniable love for each other and their artistry of capturing ephemeral moments of modern romance. Read more on how HAUTE developed, from a love story in Bali to an international brand and the inspiration behind its fashion-forward aesthetics. We also chat future plans to add Videography and a Bridal Fashion extension to the brand.

Julia and Cameron, tell us about your own love story? how you met and what inspired you to start Haute Weddings together?

We feel so lucky to have met. We are from opposite sides of the world and we met in the middle, by chance, in Bali. From very early on we had that deep sense of knowing that we had met our person. That made the decision to follow each other around the globe to make it work an easy one. We are big fans of big love and always love to meet other couples who have also found that. We wanted to build a business together that represented us, our love, our style and our working backgrounds. Julia comes from a fashion background and Cameron from photography. So Haute Weddings was born.

Why photography? What is it about the art form that drives you, inspires you?

Wedding photography is about taking the raw elements of light, love, aesthetics and fleeting meaningful moments, and weaving them together into a single image.  It’s a beautiful and ever changing challenge that we love at every wedding. It just so happens that these raw elements are some of our favourite things in the world. We love pursuing different aesthetics and designs, different ways of communicating emotions and feelings. Photography is the perfect outlet to do that and put something out into the world that feels like us.

Your work has that dreamy mix of wedding and editorial. What do you think the key is to creating emotive and beautiful wedding frames that also have that fashionable edge?

Thank you so much. Julia studied fashion and has worked in the fashion industry in Europe and so brings a natural eye for more editorial frames. On the other hand, Cameron learnt over years of shooting weddings, to master light while capturing natural moments. These strengths help us to plan well before we shoot. Focussing on both the details and accessories for that fashionable edge, and always shooting in great light scenes so that every moment is captured well. So communicating with our couples and offering style suggestions and new ideas along the way is all part of it for us.

What can couples expect when working with you both on their wedding day?

We love meeting fellow romantics and a lot of couples have become our friends over the years. We are both calm personalities that just blend in on the day like every other wedding guest. The most important thing for us is that our couples have fun and enjoy their day while resting in the confidence that we will create images that they will cherish for years to come. To do this, we go the extra mile in planning pre-game. We will prep locations, styles, accessories and vibes with you before the day.

Is there any advice you can give to couples that are nervous to get in front of the lens?

Being nervous is completely normal and understandable. We know how it feels to be under pressure in front of the camera and so our goal is to connect with you in a way that is going to let you just be yourself. That’s when you’ll look your best. We want you to relax and not try too hard so we will just give you a few directions and let you make them your own. While you might start out stiff and nervous, by the end of our shoot we know you’ll be having fun and feeling good. We always embrace the awkwardness and those fun, in-between moments will be some of the best photos of the day anyway.

A moment behind an image you’ll never forget…

The first time we shot with a couple on a classic old boat, on Lake Como, at sunset… We actually couldn’t believe we were lucky enough to be there and still have to pinch ourselves looking at the images.

Who are the artists, photographers, creatives that inspire you?

We love to take inspiration from lots of genres and mediums. We are into the eclectic mix of fashion books, magazines, old movies, traveling and interior design. Julia is a huge fan of Iris Apfel. She is not only a fashion icon, she is also a true power woman who successfully pursued her business and her amazing love story with her husband Carl who she was married to for over 68 years. Cameron has always been inspired by street photographers like Alex Webb who work with color and shadow in unique ways.

Where has been your favourite destination to travel to?

100% it’s Bali. It’s the place where we met and fell in love. We try to get back there as often as we can. We can’t wait to be able to go there again when it all opens up. Julia has also lived there for a while so it’s the place where she feels most home. Otherwise, the Amalfi Coast is really up there for us. We love an authentic Neapolitan margarita pizza.

If you aren’t shooting a wedding, where would we find you on a Saturday morning?

We are big fans of discovering new places to eat and enjoy. So we’d likely be out trying out a new spot or searching out something new to decorate our home with. Maybe not a morning activity but lately we’ve been a bit obsessed with the arcade!

What’s coming up next for Haute?

We’ve been working on offering videography as part of our packages, so that’s an exciting development. With Julia’s background in fashion, we also have some budding plans to offer bridal accessories to some of our clients. So keep an eye out for Haute Bridal coming sometime the future.
