LUCY & ALI – REAL ENGAGEMENT

Wild love stories, how they began and their journey, are what we swoon over at Wild Hearts. The dreamers and wanderers. The magical destinations. That raw love before the big day.

This beautifully wild and rustic engagement shoot took place at Lucy and Ali’s home in Wither Hills, Marlborough. Photographer David James of The Autumn Agency, made sure to keep the shoot as effortlessly cool as the couple, while making the most of their untamed landscape and some of NZ’s most beautiful scenery. The golden rolling hills, blooms created by Lucy’s Mum and a quad bike adventure have us absolutely swooning over this couple.

THE LOVE STORY

We met on Christmas Day 2011. I went to take my Grandfather home after a beautiful Champagne breakfast. When I got home this guy Ali was having a drink with my cousins. I saw him and thought: “He looks quite good looking,” in a rugged kind of way. It turns out he was old friends with cousins.

I noticed he must have been feeling kind of awkward, at one stage, and was standing talking to my cousin Hamish out on the driveway. I remember saying to Mum: “You should ask this guy to stay for dinner.” Later I found out that she had run out and said “Ali, Lucy would like you to stay for dinner.”

As the night went on, we chatted and laughed a lot. I remember sitting down beside him on the verandah and thinking: ‘This is where I want to sit forever’. Dad always jokes that he came down the chimney that year. It was so special to me that I met him at home on Christmas day with my family around me.

THE PROPOSAL

Very relaxed. Super chilled. It’s hard to explain. You’d have to meet Ali to understand. Haha. Since meeting we have been so busy raising our twin boys, that we haven’t time to plan something until now.

THE LOCATION

The shoot location is my beautiful family home, and it’s where we live with our identical twins, Henri and Otis. It’s also where we met. Every single plant and tree has been planted by my mother.

We have both spent time at Margaret River, so we loved the dry hills and the gum trees.

OUR STYLE

Just us. We had so much fun with David (photographer). I asked him what we should wear and he said: “Grab a few things.” I’m obsessed with hats, tassels, silver and turquoise jewelry and denim. Ali always wears that jacket. He wore it when we drove across Australia. We basically threw everything on and off we went.

WHAT ARE YOU MOST EXCITED ABOUT FOR YOUR WEDDING ?

The dance floor!! Celebrating what we have been through together. The highs. The lows. Our children. And our family. Looking into each other’s eyes and realizing it’s always better when are together.

I am also a makeup artist, I work a lot of weddings, and would be good to be sitting in the chair for once getting made up.
