We firmly believe that luxury is found in simplicity. Waiheke Island’s newest boutique accommodation, Fleetwood, certainly has this ethos at the crux of its existence. Its intimate studios with simple architectural form, contemporary fittings and panoramic green views really do equate to serene island living. At just under thirty minutes drive from Matiatia Wharf, Fleetwood makes for the perfect urban escape year round.
On a recent trip to Waiheke, Wild Hearts founder, Sam, and Sales Manager Sophie, stopped in at Fleetwood for a night. Waking up to a misty island morning, they sat down with Jackie over a gorgeous homemade breakfast and talked about Jackie’s journey with Fleetwood, and exchanged stories about the area and the people that make Waiheke the island that it is.

The Fleetwood Allure
Set just under Waiheke’s highest point, Maunganui, Fleetwood offers you the chance to reconnect with yourself in the sweet solitude of island life. Their two cabin-style studios are new, yet feel wise and cosy. Built with natural materials and beautiful modern details, every aspect is intentional. Deliberate. Essential.
Outlooks
In the hearts of the Awaaroa Valley, the studios are wrapped in 18 acres of greenery. With sun filled west facing decks, rest and relaxation is heightened as you are completely immersed in the valley, sheltered from anything else. Living, breathing sea and bush breeze, you’ll leave feeling strengthened and the trees will no doubt tell you to stay a while.
Accommodation
Each studio contains a deluxe king bed, premium linen and towels, an indoor wood burner, bathrooms with underfloor heating, and an abundance of little luxuries that will ensure absolute bliss. Neutral, monochrome features and Nordic touches of style elevate the simplicity of the interior. The considered, luxe surroundings create an air of calm, which will allow your mind to open, wander and find ease.
If you have a small group (may we suggest a wedding party?!) needing accommodation on the island, the whole property can be rented for the weekend. The glory of this option is that owner Jackie’s house (Fleetwood House) is included, which features a gorgeous plunge pool and outdoor bath so that you can fully unfurl with the elements.
An intimate shared space has been created so that guests can browse the library, enjoy a movie or event on the big screen, play pétanque and grill on the Heston Blumenthal barbeque.
The Wider View
If you’re at Fleetwoodfor a few days, there’s plenty to do within your immediate locale:
- Wander down to Poderi Criscifor a long lunch or divine dinner. Poderi Crisci is hailed as one of Waiheke’s finest restaurants and it’s only an eight minute walk away… after all, the weekends were made for vineyards and pasta, were they not?
- Sunday morning yoga classes are held locally. Don’t want to leave the beautiful Fleetwood studio? Understandable… private onsite yoga classes can be arranged too.
- If you’re in need of a little extra pampering, onsite massages, manicures and pedicures can be added to your menu.
- Take a private tour of the island or book in for a local wine tour.
